Dry Bulk Vessel Operator

Oslo Bulk and Dalarö Shipping are looking for a skilled and experienced Dry Bulk Vessel Operator for our European trade.

The Vessel Operator is the primary communications link with the ships master and coordinates the day-to-day operational activities and liaise with external parties to ensure efficient commercial operation. You will be responsible for overseeing the operations of our dry bulk vessels, ensuring that they are operated efficiently and safely. The successful candidate will work closely with the vessel crew, charterers, agents, terminal operators, and other stakeholders to ensure that cargo is loaded and unloaded in a timely and efficient manner.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, coordinate, and execute vessel operations. Ensure voyage optimization, follow up on stowage plans, loading/discharge speed, by means of bunker procurement, monitor speed and fuel consumption, weather, and sea conditions, during voyage to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Provide pre & post-fixture support to vessels, voyage instructions and ensure that all obligations arising from the relevant charter parties are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are complied with.
  • Support the commercial team on voyage estimates by the evaluation of cargo quantity, consumptions and other costs, analysis of voyage data and the analysis to improve trade activities.
  • Arrange for freight/hire/demurrage collection from charterers, outlay all necessary funds for running the fleet.
  • Coordinate between the owners of the vessels, the charterers and liaise with port authorities, terminal operators, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient vessel operations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vessel logs and documentation.
  • Report on bunkers requirements and arrange replenishment in accordance with standing instructions.
  • Ensure all required instructions pertaining to the shipping documents (e.g., Bills of Lading, Manifests, Mate’s Receipts etc.) are made in due time.
  • Respond to emergencies and incidents in a timely and effective manner.

What we expect

You must have a shipping background and a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant commercial operational experience, as you will operate your own fleet of vessels from the beginning. Sea-going experience is desirable, as is an analytical, detail-oriented, and systematic work ethic, coupled with a service-minded approached.

On a personal level you must be a team player with the ability to cooperate cross-culturally and with strong coordination skills. Your personal foundation is based on being energetic, proactive, and persistent. You are comfortable in an ever-changing commercial environment and are able to prioritize tasks quickly.
