Claims Executive

The Swedish Club is a leading marine mutual insurer, head-quartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, with offices in Hong Kong, London, Oslo, Piraeus, and Tokyo. The Swedish Club was established in 1872 and today we employ about 100 staff members. We offer P&I, FD&D, Marine & Energy and various ancillary covers for selected clients. The Club is a member of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

Claims Executive

We are looking to recruit a candidate with a marine engineering background who is interested to work in the field of marine insurance and eager to develop and specialise within the area of marine claims.

Operations are handled by four teams located in Gothenburg, Piraeus, Hong Kong and Oslo. Each team is responsible for serving the Club’s members/customers within its geographical region and all teams have the resources required to deliver high quality services in all classes of insurance offered by the Club.

Work description

Handle claims and technical matters in relation to Hull & Machinery and P&I insurance.

  • Claims handling and adjusting of claims
  • Technical advisory work in connection with damage and insurance related matters
  • Assist members in damage repairs of insurance damage incuding yard selection, repair specifications, evaluation and negotiations of repair costs
  • Risk assessment of prospective members and vessels
  • Damage surveying and condition inspections of vessels including reporting
  • Monitor and follow up technical standard and safety management aspects of shipping
  • Create and deliver presentations

The job includes traveling and interaction with shipowners, ship managers, lawyers, Clubcorrespondents, surveyors, ship yards, classification societies, maritime authorities and other insurance companies.

Place of work

The place of work is for Team Gothenburg, the Club’s head office in Göteborg.

Qualifications
Your educational background is in Marine Engineering with relevant seagoing experience in the role as First or Chief Engineer. Ideally you also have shore-based experience as a marine superintendent for a shipowner or a technical ship manager. Previous experience in insurance work is an advantage, but foremost we value a high interest in the marine insurance business and the drive to learn.

The suitable candidate has excellent communication skills, oral and written, including the handling of legal and technical documents. A sense of good order and structure is important and so is a consistent approach. English is the official working language.

The job also requires a co-operative and outgoing attitude with good social and cultural skills.
